So! Neil Gaiman (insert swoon here) is coming to Singapore for the SWF (... to be honest, I'm not quite sure if it's the Singapore Writers' Festival or the Singapore Writing Festival, but I suspect it's the former)- he'll be talking about his books on 31st Oct and 1st Nov, as I'm sure some of you already know, as well as co-chairing a panel(?) with Amanda Palmer on the 31st.

WELL, THE POINT OF THIS POST IS, I'VE GOT TICKETS TO SEE NEIL GAIMAN. And since they gave out tickets in sets of two, I have one left over - it's for 31st Oct, 3pm. Who wants to come?!

I think I've missed a lot of people.

...why do I never check my f-list anymore, you don't ask? Because I've become obsessed with a Hetalia RP which I am a part of. Problem is, they're ALL AMERICAN. So you can imagine how difficult it is for me to meet up with them orz. Recently I have taken to getting up at 7am just so that I can meet them online orz. Such is the depth of my obsession, and then I RP from 7am to 2pm EVERY. FUCKING.
As I anticipate needing errand <s>boys</s>girls tomorrow, peoples who turn up early (abt 5:30pm) will get tamagoyaki? I'll only be making one roll - about 4-6 slices worth depending on how you cut it. They'll also get to light the fire for the BBQ! (Yes, I am a pyromaniac - well, a reformed pyromaniac. I no longer light so many things on fire. That's why I consider getting to light the fire a form of bribery.) They can even cook things if they want to? XD

Errands, meaning, like getting ice, maybe baguettes, things like that.
So last weekend was Cosfest VIII: A Very Happy Event. And oh, how HAPPY it was. XD

There were tons of Kuroshitsuji and Hetalia cosplayers instead. Interestingly, there were at least two Kokuyou gangs there, and Lili's friends cosplayed the TYL!Varia. And on the last day itself there was at least a Colonello, a teeny tiny Squalo, a TYL!Ryohei and two TYL!Mukurous XD

The first day was a lot less crowded - mainly what happened was the karaoke contest and the winner got a wide-screen TV omg. She was really good though - she got the nasal Japanese way of singing down pat, and she was very bubbly and friendly on stage. And the song got stuck in my head for at least a day after the whole thing. XD

Like I said, tons of Kuroshitsuji cosplayers. There were at least 2 different girl!Ciel cosplayers on the first day alone, and 3 normal Ciels. There was a whole set walking around too (Ciel, Sebastian, Madame Red, Grell and the Undertaker) but I didn't manage to take a photo of them.

Liechtenstein and Canada (who?)

Aren't they just the most adorable set of brothers EVER? ♥♥♥

This was just the perfect ninja photo op - Kuroshitsuji and Hetalia side by side XD

A very nice Kokuyou gang.

Zura- I mean, Katsura and Elizabeth on the left, Okita and Hijikata on the right XD That blur is Gintoki moving too fast for the eye to see XDDD

Or wait, maybe this is the most adorable set of brothers ever XD

And here's the TYL!Varia! Unfortunately the Squalo got grounded D:

This is a pair of epic cosplayers whose names I have forgotten (orz) cosplaying as Kaito and Hatsune Miku ♥

And here's Kei, Chris and Sarah cosplaying as Azula, Ty Lee and Katara. (Fiona was supposed to cosplay as one of the Kyoushi Warriors - Suki, I think - but signals got crossed and, well, things happened.)

So Fiona cosplayed as Badou from Dogs on Saturday instead. (orz for horrendously blurry photo) Unfortunately I didn't catch Fiona on the second day ;A;

At the end of the day, an EPIC BATTORU ensued XD

The Group and Solo cosplayers competition was held on Sunday and the Macross Frontier duo got to go to WCS in Japan! They were really good, too - it was .. well, you had to be there to witness the ultimatee-ness of the cosplay.

Then there was the HILARIOUS Alex Louis Armstrong from Fullmetal Alchemist (who did the same cosplay for both days, but it was so EXTREME that we all forgave him XD) who was recruiting young boys for the Young Alchemist Oomph Institution - he even did a recruitment song and dance to the tune of Y.M.C.A XD

Psst. This isn't my photo - if you'd like me to take it down just comment!Naturally, he won the solo cosplayers competition, which was a ticket to Japan on .. ANA, I think.

Can you imagine? He was even giving out recruitment posters and stickers for Y.A.O.I! XD

Among the solo cosplayers there was also a guy who cosplayed as one of the guys from Princess Princess - and REALLY crossdressed as a girl XDDD Unfortunately I lost sight of him after he got off the stage.

This is the stage full of group cosplay competitors.

Zeph cosplayed as Yuji from Shakugan no Shana XD I always thought of Yuji as a bit of a dame-dame character but she made him quite kakkoii XDDD And their entry got into the finals for WCS entry! ♥ Too bad they lost to the Marcoss Frontier group though.

And Xiang Wen's friend was the Watanuki in the top hat XD That xxxHoLiC team had such a good skit XD And they even had the theme music down! ♥♥♥

The Code Geass team was also epic and so sad ;A;

There were also Gundams

Well when I say were, I meant was - there was only one XD But it was fantastic. I had to stretch up all the way on my tippy-toes and with out-stretched arms to take that photo XD SO EPIC OMG

I have no idea who this is, but this is truly another EPIC cosplay - I mean, the TV looked totally real! It looked like it would hurt if you banged into him XD

And this is Lili-chan as crack!Sakura XD She was cosplaying the comatose Sakura but in this one she nommed poor Mokona XDDD just for me XDDD

And now, presenting my loot for Cosfest ♥ 2 Hetalia doujin which came with 2 postcards each, a YamaGoku postcard which is so cuuuuuute, some KHR stickers, and a Grell with a Sebas-chan doll XDDD

And then I had Choco Banana Pocky~

I know it's kind of late, but I made this especially for you. Although I frankly think that this would just be a side-dish for Mocchan (considering how much Ichinose ate for lunch [as seen on the Ichi-style DVD]). I made the tamagoyaki, and I had a hand in making the shitake and tofu dish, but the achar was a gift from my mom's friend XD who made it when my mom mentioned that her daughter loved to eat achar. Eh-heh.

What the bento box looks like closed. Yes, it's a bento box. Yes, the corner there says it's by Lube Sheep. No, it didn't cost an arm and a leg. I got it at Daiso! XDDD

Another angle of the closed box. It's really tiny! I mean, the whole thing stands as high as my palm, and the other dimensions are in the same region! But apparently that's what a person of my height and physical exertion is supposed to have per meal. I have heard reports that it actually is rather filling, so I am heartened.

And this is the bento box with the bento band. Don't want the contents of my bento falling out!

I need to remember to recharge my camera orz. As you can tell, all these photos were taken on a phone camera so the quality sucks. OTL

I was going to finish a fic for Mocchan as well, but this bloody thing took up so much of my time that I didn't manage to finish it. Shall try to do that tomorrow.

And I am never ever doing another charaben again until I can find small but durable scissors, a scapel, and a pair of <s>tweezers</s>forceps. I mean, seriously!

Now I shall hie myself off to bed, wherefrom I will awaken in 2 and a half hours' time. ;A;

...Why are my weekends busier than my weekdays?

I can't believe that I was gadding about all day last Saturday and Sunday. Well, no, I can but yeah. I mostly don't go out because I never developed that habit - I spent all my formative years Doing Productive Things by order of the parentals.

half_sleeping, thelovemafia, tokei and I went to court.

Okay, so that was a horrendously lame pun. Actually, we went to the Supreme Court Open House very briefly where Chris showed us around. They actually allowed cameras into the courthouse that day but as I am no photographer - nor am I stricken with impulses to take photographs unless I am alone - I didn't take any photos at all. Chris basically said that actually everything was open as well on regular weekdays, just without the simulated trial business and the explanations by guides and tours and things. And comic panels on the walls.

Then we went to Aston's for lunch where Ghis showed us the plot for her next fic... which was cliched in an amusing way. Whaaaaat. I said that the plot was cliched - I never said anything about the writing. Then we had a kind of discussion about how "bad" writing was like soap powder (Ghis's opinion), or just a different kind of cuisine that you don't like (Chris's opinion). But... at the end of the day, bad writing is just bad writing - somedays I feel sucked in, like watching a really bad train/car wreck while somedays I read the first line and close the tab (my opinion). Hilarious fact: Ghis and her mom debated how to pronounce the name of the restaurant we (were going to)went to, but Ghis had mistakenly read it as Anton's in my text, so said discussion was moot.

After that we went to watch Watchmen <s>(Who watches the Watchmen? We do.)</s>. It was. Extremely long. Rorschach's narration irritated me a little bit in the beginning, but it ended up serving as a useful giant blinking arrow. The title sequence was AMAZING and utterly blew me away - I think it might be worth buying the VCD (if they still make those XD) just for the title sequence alone. I WANT TO GO WATCH IT AGAIN. <s>And I just may do that tomorrow. I'll see if I have time and the inclination to do so.</s> XD Or should I just wait for the DVD to come out? Hmm. Decisions, decisions. Augh. I think DVD it shall be because I have this need to press pause whenever I see something interesting. The movie is so complex! I still don't see how Rorschach's mom is related to the Watchmen besides being a mother of a Watchman. Or if she's even related at all. And now I feel like getting my hands on a copy of the comic book, but unfortunately the libraries have them all out on loan, poo.

thelovemafia fangirled all over it and tokei gave a bulletpointed account of what happened the whole day here.

And when I say we, I mean cellardoorsky, queen_qing and stelf plus me.

I was so worried that I was going to be late, but it turned out that I was the earliest there XP <s>unlike certain other times I could mention, ehehe</s>. I hadn't been to the zoo in a long time so when <s>Fifi</s>Fiona said she wanted to go to the zoo to get some references for her work I jumped at the chance. We were there bright and early. Stef, being the usual failboat, wanted to put her bag in a locker so that she wouldn't need to carry it around but there was no such service XD And all the animals refused to be photographed by Fiona - they kept showing her their butts. But Qing got some very cute shots of an otter line all looking at her cutely XD and a squirrel who was showing some attitude.

Interesting facts that I have learnt:
1) Qing loves white tigers, ligers and snakes (especially poisonous snakes).
2) Fiona is deathly afraid of buayas (aka crocodiles) and wax figures.
3) Stef loves all sorts of tortoises and turtles but is afraid of snakes and lizards.
4) Qing is really quite scary. XD
5) They are all enamoured of horses, ponies, big cats and big buckets of water splashing out.

I unfortunately have already learnt all the zoo can teach the public, and it was all I could do to only go :/ at the fact that they spelled 'hyena' as 'hyaena' (unless that is some new spelling that I have not heard of).

We also rode a horse carriage (cheap thrill FTW XD) in the new Kidzworld area and there was a mini water park there. Definitely bringing my kid(s) to the zoo, if I have any.

There were actually a few shows that we wanted to watch but our timing was always off, but the one show we caught was hilarious (and spawned ideas for new zoo-related icons XD) ♥ manatees and Philip the seal.

Then we were ambling past the polar bear exhibit and sitting down for a bit of a rest when it started raining sporadically, at which point we decided to go home before it became a TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR.

Sometimes I forget we're living in the region where it's mostly tropical rainforest. XD

After that we went back to Woodlands to let Stef, ahem, use the facilities and parted ways. BTW, the Woodlands Interchange is one you have to take a look at - it looks totally different from the rest of the bus interchanges here - in fact, it looks like it belongs in Malaysia or something. I was so exhausted when I got home that it was all I could do to sprawl all over the couch.

I am really looking forward to those zoo icons XD

Something that scares me: I am seeing bits of myself in Ghis and Fiona; it's just that I am a lot less fashion-savvy than those two, and possibly nicer/less mean, as well as being less artistic. XD

Observation: Rain seems to be coming in 20-hour periods.
Prediction: Next rainstorm will be at approximately 10am tomorrow morning.

I really don't know what I'm doing up so late when I'm going out at 11 tomorrow. And yes, it's 11am.

Anyway, went to watch Slumdog Millionaire with tokei \o/ It was quite a nice story, and showed me another culture that I haven't probed yet. (haha, probed) I think I might have been a little showy-off again today, but I KNEW THAT THE ANSWER TO THE LAST QUESTION WAS ARAMIS. Because I have read The Three Musketeers. XD Well, granted that it's the abridged edition, but what to do when you live in a household who doesn't really know what kind of English books to get children?

Come to think of it, I won't know what Chinese books to get my kids. If I have any. I'll probably just get them the standard: Dream of Red Chamber, Journey to the West, Water Margin and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, haha.

Also, when to KKnM after the movie and it was Yamamoto cushion cover get! I haven't opened it yet, so have a ghetto photo of it.

Jo and I passed by cellardoorsky's school today, and wondered if she was there XD

Also. Argh. So torn D: Sorry zoo-goers ;A;

LOL got this one from argentum_luna.

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me!"
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your blog or journal.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. And thus the endless cycle of the meme goes on and on and on and on...

1. What's the nastiest thing you've ever eaten?

...I don't actually make it a point to eat nasty things, so I guess it'd be something along the lines of liver or egg yolk? I just don't like the squishy mouthfeel... which actually makes me mal-adapted to eat the more atypical Japanese dishes.

2. Do you play any sports?

I used to swim a lot; I used to play netball and touch rugby and water polo and throw the javelin. USED to.

3. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE VIRUS OMG XD

Hmm - I used to like the human respiratory syncytial virus but after a bad experience, I think I might like the human metapneumovirus better.

4. What started your interest in Biology? :D

When I was in Primary 3, the teacher assigned us to "study a mealworm and draw your observations". That's where it started, as far as I can pinpoint it.

5. Why do you like Yamamoto?

I dunno actually, haha. Maybe it's because I empathize with him the most? XD

So, who wants to do the meme? XD
